Dalit men tonsured, forced to crawl over cow smuggling allegations in Odisha

 In a shocking incident from Odisha’s Ganjam district, two Dalit men were subjected to brutal treatment by a mob that accused them of cow smuggling. The incident took place in Kharigumma village under the jurisdiction of Dharakote police station. According to police reports, the victims had legally purchased a cow and two calves and were on their way home when they were intercepted by a group of local men. The mob accused them of smuggling the animals and demanded a sum of ₹30,000 from them. When the Dalit men said they couldn’t pay, they were physically assaulted. The mob then forcibly tonsured both men and made them crawl on the road with grass clamped between their teeth — a form of public humiliation. A video clip of the incident has surfaced, showing the men crawling while several individuals walk behind them, some laughing and recording. Film producer Deepak Mukut, known for backing 'Mulk', 'Dhaakad', Forensic’, bankrolls a film inspired by Swachh Bharat Abhiyan


 After backing some of the content-driven powerful stories like 'Mulk', upcoming Kangana Ranaut starrer 'Dhaakad', and Vikrant Massey, Radhika Apte starrer ‘Forensic’, film producer Deepak Mukut is gearing up to back a film titled 'Bal Naren' inspired by the concept of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, written and directed by Pawan KK Nagpal.

When Deepak Mukut, Founder, Chairman & Managing Director of Soham Rockstar Entertainment Pvt Ltd., heard the story, he really liked the story and decided to back the high on content film.

Deepak Mukut says, "Be it Mulk, Dhaakad or Forensic, the story was the first thing that got me excited. Bal Naren’s story is inspiring and an eye opener, Imagine face lifting the whole society just by keeping the surrounding clean. The film is especially relevant in these difficult times when we are going through a pandemic."

The story of the film revolves around a young boy Naren, who looses his father at a very young age because of dengue and how he gets motivated by Swachh Bharat Abhiyan to get the whole village together to make positive changes through a cleanliness drive. The film also touches upon the impact Coronavirus had on our country, in phase 1 and 2.

The film starring Rajneish Duggall, Bidita Bag, Govind Namdev and Vindu Dara Singh is going on floor this month and will be shot in a start to finish schedule in Uttar Pradesh.
